BYPHS – Bolton Young Persons Housing Scheme – is the Welcome Drink Sponsor for the third time at The Big Bolton Expo on 17th March. We are delighted to have them with us again and thank them for their support.
BYPHS is Bolton Young Persons Housing Scheme it is a registered charity providing temporary supported accommodation to people aged 16-25 in Bolton. BYPHS support young people who are homeless with support needs by offering safe accommodation, plus emotional and practical help with the aim of enabling independent living. BYPHS was established in 1992 to meet the needs of single young homeless people in Bolton. The Scheme runs in partnership with other agencies including housing associations and registered social landlords.
BYPHS Support Workers help Scheme users to develop basic living skills and assist with any problems so that the clients can move on successfully to independence. The project includes help to find move-on accommodation for residents and continue to provide support for a period after the resident has moved into their own accommodation.
BYPHS are running four projects presently:
The Organisation has 70 flats to rent to homeless and vulnerable young people. The flats are fully furnished, carpeted and curtained. They also supply bedding, towels, pots and pans, plates and cutlery so that a young person can move in with nothing, they even supply toiletries and tooth brushes. Where possible they try to provide some food just to make things easier.
Supported lodgings where appropriate is another BYPHS project. The scheme recruits local people ‘householders’ who are able to provide safe, secure and supportive accommodation within their own homes to young homeless people.
Emergency accommodation is provided at Castle House. It is a large house that offers emergency accommodation for 16 to 21year old’s, with 16 and 17year old’s getting priority. There are only 8 places available each night, with each person having their own room. Access to this accommodation is arranged by the homelessness service at Children’s Services for anyone who is 16 and 17years old.
Project Front Door (PFD) is a 24 hour 365 days supported housing scheme for 10 young people. The project is constantly staffed to offer intensive support to those with higher support needs who need help to ‘manage their own front door’. The focus is on developing positive routines and skills required to live semi-independently. There are 6 bedsits and 4 self-contained flats. This service is part funded by the Big Lottery.
BYPHS is an excellent organisation that is helping to transform the lives of vulnerable young people, they need the support of the community at large to continue their fine work and we are delighted to have them as Sponsors once again for The Big Bolton Expo in March 2017.We look forward to seeing them at the Expo.
You can come and say Hi to the team at BYPHS on the day of the expo, they will be on stand 9!
