Bolton Young Persons Housing Scheme was established in 1992 to meet the needs of single young homeless people in Bolton and is still going strong to this day. A Registered Charity, the Scheme works to support Young single people between the ages of sixteen and twenty five years of age in the Bolton area. The scheme managed by the team led by Director Maura Jackson has the stated aim of helping Young People to develop the basic skills needed and help with any problems being faced by their young clients to enable them to develop life skills and move on successfully to independence by offering safe accommodation, emotional support, plus practical guidance to enable independent living. The scheme includes help with finding a place to live for its residents and provide further support whilst the young person settles into their own place.

Services include:

Supported Tenancies by offering 70 flats to rent to homeless, vulnerable, young people, the flats come furnished and equipped.

Emergency overnight accommodation, the facility at Castle House is a large House that offers emergency accommodation for local young people between 16 years and 21 years old with those who are 16 or 17 having priority. There are eight places available each night with each person having their own room. Access is arranged by the homeless service at Children’s Services.

Project Front Door, is a 24 hour 365 days per year supported housing scheme for 10 young people, the project is constantly staffed to offer intensive support to those young people who need help to manage their ‘own front door.’ The policy is to enable the youngsters to learn positive routines and the skills needed to live independently.
